The Good Doctor

And now for something completely different . . . After completing a successful run of David Mamet’s The Water Engine, The Oasis Theatre Company will be producing Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor, an evening of vignettes based upon humorous short stories by Anton Chekhov.

An evening of humorous and poignant vignettes originally written by Anton Chekhov and adapted by the comedic genius, Neil Simon, The Good Doctor is, by turns, charming, hilarious and touching. It centers around a writer who takes the audience into his confidence as he creates stories at his writing desk.

The cast comprises five actors playing a variety of roles. They are as follows: Brenda Lynn Bynum, Vaughn Irving, James Jenner, Matthew Montoya and Tallis Rose. Lighting Designer Jeffrey Tarnoff and Stage Manager Suzanne Cross round out the company.

Originally produced in 1973 with an all-star cast consisting of Christopher Plummer, Rene Auberjonois, Marsha Mason, Barnard Hughes and Frances Sternhagen, the play has been a popular regional theater piece since it was first produced on Broadway. Frances Sternhagen garnered a Tony Award for her performance, and Rene Auberjonois was honored with a nomination. And Marsha Mason met her future husband, Neil Simon, when she auditioned for the production.

The run begins March 8 through March 25, and performances will take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Teatro Paraguas, located at 3205 Calle Marie, Santa Fe, NM. Ticket price is $25 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors. For Thursday, March 8 only, all tickets are $15.
