THE BIG HEARTLESS by Dale Dunn

a staged reading at Teatro Paraguas Sun.day, June 5 at 6:00 pm

directed by Roxanne Tapia, featuring Todd Anderson,Catherine Donavon, Alix Hudson, Argos MacCallum, Lexy McAvinchey, and Matthew Montoya

Uncle Mac, a wolf-loving hermit living smack in the middle of THE BIG HEARTLESS, is visited unexpectedly by his

nephew Cliff and his friend Monsoon.  They’ve escaped from a tough-love reform school and need help.  But Uncle Mac already has his hands full protecting wolves in the Yellowstone Relocation Project and caring for Jean, his neighbors’ orphaned granddaughter.  THE BIG HEARTLESS comes face to face with our tendency to lock up or kill anything we fear or don’t understand.

After studying at Columbia University’s School of the Arts and working in New York, most notably with Joanne Akalaitis at Mabou Mines and the Public Theater, Dale returned to her native New Mexico and to writing for the stage.  Her plays include BODY BURDEN, produced at the Adobe Theater in Albuquerque and in Santa Fe at the Armory for the Arts (Best New Play of 2009, Albuquerque Journal), OLD FAITHFUL, OUR PLACE, PARAKEET LOVE (Winner, Fusion Theater’s THE SEVEN, 2012), WOMAN WITH A GUN, SWORN TO WATER (commissioned by Theaterwork for 4x4x4) and DRIVING WHILE INNOCENT (Winner, First Stage Los Angeles One-Act Play Contest, 2015). THE BIG HEARTLESS, her most recent full-length play, was a semi-finalist in this year’s Eugene O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference.  Her latest short play, ARMED AND DANGEROUS will be presented in the 2016 Fusion Theater’s Second Seven series.
