Artistic Director Robert Benedetti announced today that for its inaugural season this summer, the New Mexico Actors Lab

will present three prize-winning plays at Teatro Paraguas, located at 3205 Calle Marie in Santa Fe’s Siler-Rufina Arts District.  Each play will run for three weeks. All productions will be directed and designed by Dr. Benedetti, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning film producer and a noted acting teacher.

     Formed last year for its highly successful production of SYLVIA by A. R. Gurney at the Santa Fe Playhouse, the company intends to feature plays that appeal to the mind and the heart, as well as original plays by local writers.


     A repertory company in the classic sense, NMAL selects plays that showcase and challenge the talents of its members. The acting company is comprised of Nicholas Ballas, Jody Durham, Tone Forrest, Scott Harrison, Suzanne Lederer, Robert Nott, Geoffrey Pomeroy, Jonathan Richards, and Tallis Rose. The creative staff includes Barbara Hatch, Skip Rapoport, Argos MacCallum, Suzanne Cross, and Kyra Murzyn.

     Artistic Director Robert Benedetti was an early member of Chicago’s Second City Theatre, He served as Head of the Acting Program at the Yale Drama School, and Dean of Theater at The California Institute of the Arts. He was Company Director of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater and has directed at many regional theaters, including the Tyrone Guthrie Theater and the Oregon, Colorado, and Great Lakes Shakespeare festivals. As President of Ted Danson’s Anasazi Productions at Paramount Studios, he won three Emmys, two Humanitas Prizes, and a Peabody Award. He is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Theater at the Kennedy Center.
